Difference between 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold
Karat shows how much of the metal is pure gold. 24K is pure gold; the lower the karat, the more other metals (such as copper or silver) are mixed in to make it harder and cheaper.

How to calculate gold jewellery price in Pakistan
The price of jewellery is the price of the gold in it plus the jeweller's charges:
Total price = weight × today's rate for your karat + making charges
- Find the weight of the piece in tola or gram (1 tola = 11.664 gram).
- Multiply it by today's rate for the karat (22K, 21K or 18K) from the tables above.
- Add the making charges. Jewellers charge them as a percentage of the gold value or as an amount per gram or per tola, and they depend on the design.
Example: 1 tola of 22K jewellery at today's rate is Rs 392,011. With making charges of 10% (Rs 39,201), the total is about Rs 431,212. Making charges here are only an example; ask your jeweller for his own.

Factors that affect the daily gold rate
- International gold price. Pakistan's rate follows the world price per ounce, which moves all day on global markets.
- US dollar rate. Gold is bought in dollars, so when the dollar gets dearer against the rupee, gold in Pakistan gets dearer too.
- Local demand. Weddings, Eid and the festive season raise demand and can push local prices up.
- Inflation and interest rates. Investors buy gold to protect their savings when inflation is high or the economy is uncertain.
- Duties and the local market premium. Import duties and the difference between local and international supply add to the price.
